The US built Unity module(upper) and Russian built Functional Energy Block(called FGB) with deployed solar arrays. Unity was lauched by Space Shuttle Endeavour. After rendevous with the Russian launched FGN, the two were connected by the STS-8 crew to create the first stage of the International Space Station. credit to NASA for all photos
